Established by the US Congress in 1923, the American Battle Monument Commission commemorates the service, achievements, and sacrifice of U.S. Armed Forces overseas. As the guardian of 58 cemeteries and memorials located in 17 countries, ABMC strives to preserve and promote this national legacy in the world’s consciousness.
As such, the ABMC recently initiated a program called “Vanishing Treasures” to preserve at-risk historic documents in the ABMC’s vast and indispensable collections. This project creates a bridge between American and European histories dating back to the World War I.
This webinar—presented by the ABMC, History Associates Incorporated, and Arkhênum—provided a complete overview and understanding of the project from the physical preparation of the documents through the digitization phase.
